Position: Program Manager

Reporting toDirector of Programs, Centre for Social Innovation

Position Type: Full time, fixed term (three-year contract)

Compensation: $48-55K commensurate with experience + health and dental after probationary period

About CSI

The Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) is a nonprofit social enterprise with collaborative workspaces, communities and acceleration programs in Toronto and New York City. CSI supports over 1,000 nonprofits and social mission organizations tackling a range of social, environmental and economic challenges. Our mission is to catalyze social innovation by amplifying the success of our members and fueling a movement for people and planet. CSI works closely with our affiliate organization, The Social Innovation Institute (SII), to make social innovation education, training and spaces inclusive and accessible.

CSI’s Climate Ventures, located at CSI Spadina in downtown Toronto, is a coworking space, community and incubator for entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders tackling the climate crisis. Climate Ventures runs accelerators, fellowships, pitch competitions, advisory services, and other programs designed to accelerate the success and amplify the impact of enterprises and organizations addressing challenges related to our environment and climate.

About the Role

Over the next three years, CSI’s Climate Ventures is leading an exciting program called Earth Tech to support tech startups and tech initiatives within nonprofits and charities across Canada focused on freshwater and climate solutions.

The program will launch in the Greater Toronto Area for its first cohort of 10-15 enterprises, and then will scale nationally in Year 2 and Year 3 to reach entrepreneurs and innovators everywhere.

We are looking for a talented Program Manager with a passion for climate solutions and the environment to join our team to make this program a success, and to help run CSI’s Climate Ventures incubator.

Key Responsibilities

Earth Tech 

  • Representing the program and serving its participants by understanding their needs and connecting them to resources, advisors, each other and relevant opportunities

  • Informing program design

  • Coordinating the selection process for ventures applying to the program, including application intake, organizing pitch sessions with the selection committee, and communicating to applicants

  • Managing communication with participants, advisors, and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, including the program Slack workspace

  • Helping to recruit more advisors and to bring on new partners

  • Scheduling and tracking advisor office hours, coaching sessions, workshops, and peer circles

  • Managing website, and liaising with Communications team to inform storytelling and marketing

  • Having regular check-ins with participants and collecting data to inform programmatic decisions and to track progress

  • Planning our Pitch Nights, including event registration, guest list, and working with the Events team

  • Helping to fulfill our reporting requirements to our funders

Climate Ventures

  • Delivering exceptional customer service to our Climate Ventures members

  • Providing info tours and on-boarding new members

  • Coordinating advisor office hours, peer circles, workshops and events

  • Helping to collect data for impact measurement

  • Ensuring the daily functioning of the space

  • Connecting our Climate Ventures members to other members and opportunities across CSI and beyond

  • Potentially writing updates for our website and CSI’s newsletter

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience managing complex programs; previous work within accelerators or incubators preferable

  • Involvement in cleantech or climate/environmental work – i.e. you are passionate!

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills

  • Solid communication and writing skills

  • Strong customer-service orientation

  • You’re a resourceful self-starter with a positive attitude and comfortable with complexity

  • Able to work Monday-Friday during daytime business hours (e.g. 9am to 5pm, or 10:00am to 6:00pm) and occasionally after hours in events (both work and social). Please indicate your availability in your cover letter.
